A 22 m long skeleton of an Apatosaurus was sold at an auction in France for almost 6 million euros. Radio France internationale reported this on Saturday, November 16, referring to the auction houses Collin du Bocage and Barbarossa that organized the auction.
The skeleton was found in 2018 in Wyoming, USA, and after two years of restoration was brought to France.
The dinosaur is about 150 million years old and contains up to 80% of its bones.
Auction house Barbarossa said it was the “world’s largest dinosaur to be sold at auction.”
The anonymous buyer intends to display the skeleton in a museum, which would make the find accessible to a wide range of viewers and paleontology enthusiasts.
Earlier in New York, a dinosaur skeleton was sold at Sotheby’s auction for $44.6 million (£34 million).
It was previously reported that the skeleton of a dinosaur nicknamed Trinity was sold at an auction in Zurich (Switzerland) for 5.5 million Swiss francs.
