Recall that the battle for the island, which continued from the first days of the great war of Russia against Ukraine, ended at the end of June with the victory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – the Russians were forced to climb off the island due to heavy losses caused by the fire of Ukrainian units. In Russia, they explained this as a “gesture of goodwill”, which did not prevent their planes from shelling Zmeiny already on July 1. It turned out unsuccessfully and Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny explained that the Russians were trying in this way to eliminate the remnants of their own equipment, which they did not have time to evacuate from the island.
Subsequently, information appeared that the Armed Forces of Ukraine fixed the national flag on the island, but the military explained that they simply dropped it on Zmeiny in order to install it in safer conditions.
