Matt Gaetz has never worked in the Justice Department or as a prosecutor at any level, but was nominated by Trump to be attorney general. The Republican Party believes that the Senate will not support his candidacy.
US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday, November 13, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz as his candidate for Attorney General, The Hill reports.
“Matt will end armed government, secure our borders, dismantle criminal organizations and restore the American people’s broken faith and trust in the Department of Justice,” Trump said in a statement announcing his selection, which must be confirmed by the Republican majority in the Senate.
Trump also stressed that Goetz played “a key role in defeating the ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’ deception.”
The publication states that Goetz’s name was not among those proposed for the position of Prosecutor General. According to the publication’s source, when he was announced as a candidate, loud gasps were heard in the room where House Republicans were present.
The position of Attorney General is one of the keys for Trump. It is thanks to him that he can carry out the announced mass deportation, forgive the participants in the January 6 riots and take revenge, as promised, on those who persecuted him for the past four years.
Meanwhile, some Republicans emphasized that Gaetz is divisive within the GOP.
“I believe the President is probably rewarding him for being a loyal soldier, but the President is smart enough and his team is smart enough to know that Mr. Gaetz will never be confirmed by the Senate,” said Rep. Max Miller, a former Trump aide.
It was also reported that Goetz had never worked for the Justice Department or as a prosecutor at any level of government.
Goetz took an anti-Ukrainian position: last summer, in an interview, he openly said: “If we have to choose who will be admitted to NATO – Russia or Ukraine, it is advisable to choose Russia In the long run , it will bring more benefits.”
And in February 2023, Gaetz, supported by a dozen other members of the House of Representatives, introduced a resolution calling on the Biden administration to end military and financial aid to Ukraine, and also called on all participants to ensure a “peace agreement.”
It was previously reported that John Thune will be the new Senate Republican leader. He won the secret election, defeating a candidate supported by the party’s MAGA wing.
Trump will appoint Gabbard to lead the intelligence service, which disseminated the Russian narratives
