During the Russian war against Ukraine, tens of thousands of Ukrainians disappeared. We are talking about both military and civilian.
More than 50 thousand people are listed as missing in Ukraine. We are talking about both military and civilian. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Timchenko announced this on Tuesday, November 12, in a telethon.
“As of today, there are 53,868 people who are considered missing under special circumstances. These are both civilians and military personnel. There are also children among them,” he said.
Timchenko said that investigators and criminal investigation officers are carefully recording all the necessary information that will help in finding the person.
“Investigators collect all information about the workplace of the missing person, his circle of friends recorded information from brothers, if we are talking about the military,” explained the deputy minister.
If there is information from drones about the location of a wounded military or the body of a fallen defender, it is also included in the criminal proceedings. But the person still remains on the Missing Persons Register until his body is returned.
“Until we receive the body, we do not receive enough information to say that the person died, we cannot remove him from the Register,” said Leonid Timchenko.
Recently, about 70 states and international organizations adopted a joint working document to return captured Ukrainians.
