Now the procedure for providing such guarantees is being discussed within the group of G7 countries.
Berlin is ready to provide Ukraine with “security guarantees” against the backdrop of Russia’s aggression. This was announced on Wednesday, July 6, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, reports RosSMI.
At the same time, Scholz clarified that currently the procedure for providing such guarantees is being discussed within the G7 (which, in addition to Germany, includes the USA, Canada, Japan, France, Italy and the UK).
By the way, at a press conference after the G7 summit on June 29, Scholz avoided a direct answer to the question about the security guarantees promised to Ukraine. His response caused a scandal in Germany.
So, at a press conference, a journalist asked the chancellor if he could identify what is at stake in the issue of providing security guarantees in Ukraine.
Scholz laughed and said, “I can,” then he stopped. “That’s all,” he added after a brief silence and held out his hands. This response has drawn strong criticism from journalists and users of social networks.
Recall, on the eve of the security guarantee for Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
