A reservoir dam near Kurakhovoy has been blown up, and water is flooding nearby villages, – Ukrainian publics
RosSMI also reported the explosion of a dam near the village of Starye Terny, which is one of the targets of the Russian offensive. The Russian army is approaching it from two sides in order to block Kurakhovo from the rear.
It is not yet known who blew up the dam.
Muscovites suggest that the dam was destroyed by their military to flood the roads supplying the garrison to Kurakhovo, as well as Ukrainian forces north of the Volchya River and the Kurakhovo Reservoir.
Meanwhile, the Kurakhovskaya thermal power plant was dismantled for spare parts to repair other power plants damaged by shelling, The Wall Street Journal reports.
The decision was made in the spring, when Russia destroyed the bridge that supplied the thermal power plant with coal. Without it, the station could not function, and the restoration of infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the front line was impossible.
By the end of the summer, dismantling was almost complete, which made it possible to quickly repair many other objects. All that remained were the boilers and other elements, too bulky to transport.
