Putin has indicated that Moscow will consider resetting relations between the states if sanctions against Russia are lifted and support for Ukraine is halted.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has admitted that US President-elect Donald Trump will listen to the Kremlin’s interests and wishes without offering any concessions or benefits. This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
It was noted that in his speech at the Valdai Forum on November 7, Putin announced his openness to discussions aimed at “restoring” Russian-American relations. According to him, the United States should initiate these negotiations.
Putin indicated that Moscow would only consider resetting relations between the states if sanctions against Russia were lifted and support for Ukraine ended – conditions that would only benefit Russia and not benefit the United States.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin’s announcement about negotiations with the United States does not mean a change in Russia’s military goals in Ukraine. On the contrary – Moscow’s goals remain unchanged.
According to ISW analysts, “Putin may be trying to position himself as attractive to Trump. But he is signaling to his domestic audience that the Kremlin is unwilling to accept any aspect of its maximalist goals in Ukraine or in wider world stage.”
We remind you that the newly elected US President Donald Trump said that he does not rule out the possibility of continuing talks with Vladimir Putin.
