In the past week, the cost of eggs has increased by 60%, and now the price for a dozen has reached almost 80 UAH.
The cost of eggs in Ukraine has increased to 60-80 UAH per dozen. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy explains the jump in prices – the weather and the fact that this year they were made 5% less than last year in the same period. First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky said this on Friday, November 8, in a comment to Suspilny.
He noted that with the onset of cold weather, chickens began to lay eggs poorly, and the number of chickens was also renewed, which traditionally was accompanied by a decrease in production.
“Another important factor is the increase in feed prices, which is related to the recovery of grain prices after several years of low levels because, among other things, blocking sea routes has a positive effect on farmers, because their production becomes more profitable. However, at the same time, production costs increase egg production,” said Vysotsky.
He suggested that eggs could become cheaper in the future after their peak prices in November.
“It will definitely be a drop after the new year,” Vysotsky said.
The Deputy Minister added that due to the stable operation of the country’s energy system, significant price fluctuations are not expected for basic products, in particular meat, dairy products, flour and vegetables.
“Assuming stable operation of the energy system, significant changes in prices for basic meat and dairy products, flour, cereals or borscht are not expected until the end of the year,” concluded the official .
In Ukraine, in October 2024, consumer prices increased by 1.8% to the September figure, from the beginning of the year – 8.4%.
