In the Odessa region, four members of a criminal group were exposed who posed as police officers and TCC officers, demanding money.
The press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General reported this today, November 8.
According to the investigation:
- The suspects tracked down men of military age and, posing as police officers and TCC and SP officers, under the pretext of checking documents, demanded to show military IDs. In case of refusal, they intimidated with forced delivery to the TCC and demanded money to resolve this issue;
- in one of the cases, the suspects received 38 thousand UAH from the victim, in another – almost 39 thousand UAH;
- After receiving the money, they “calmed down” the victims, assuring them that their data would be entered into the Obereg database, which supposedly guaranteed that there would be no problems with mobilization.
The suspects were detained while extorting and receiving 4,000 UAH and 3,000 US dollars from the victim on duty. During the searches, military uniforms, money, weapons and other material evidence were confiscated from them, the prosecutor’s office said.
It is noted that the criminal group included:
- persons with a criminal record;
- a former law enforcement officer who also had problems with the law.
Members of the criminal group were informed of suspicion of extortion (Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code). The issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided.
