President Vladimir Zelensky recalled that $300 billion of Russian assets were frozen in Europe, but a firm decision had to be made and these funds should be transferred to Ukraine. Zelensky said this at a press conference after the summit of the European Political Community in Budapest on Thursday, November 7.
He gave this answer to the question of what Ukraine will do if US President Donald Trump refuses to support Ukraine.
The head of state recalled that, according to international institutions, Ukraine suffered about $800 billion in Russian attacks. To ensure financing, he suggests that European allies transfer $300 billion of the fixed fund of Russia in Ukraine.
“Everyone is asking: what will you do if Trump does not support you financially, where will you get weapons, how will you defend yourself, I will answer you: can we take the 300 billion that belong to us in money that these are all the countries of the world Can we decide for ourselves what kind of weapons we need? we just gave us the frozen money Russian murderers and oligarchs?” said Zelensky.
He called on Europe not to look to the United States in making this decision, as most of Russia’s fixed assets are located in Europe, and to make a “strong decision” on its own. Moreover, according to him, this money will still remain in the EU.
It was previously reported that Canada will transfer $3.7 billion from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.
Let’s recall that on October 25, the leaders of the G7 countries published a joint statement in which they announced that they had reached an agreement on the details of providing Ukraine with a loan of $50 billion at the cost of the assets of Russia.
