Scientists predict that 2024 will break the temperature records set last year, proving unrelenting global warming.
Scientists from Europe’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) say 2024 could be the hottest year on record, Reuters reports.
According to C3S, from January to October 2024, the global average temperature is so high that a new temperature record will be set this year, barring extreme climate.
According to experts, the cause of the recorded heat is global warming. “Temperatures are rising on all continents and in all oceans, so there is no doubt that we will see new records,” said C3S director Carlo Buontempo.
Despite the 2015 Paris climate agreement, in which states pledged to keep global warming to 1.5°C, scientists predict that this threshold will be reached by 2030.
Sonya Seneviratna from C3S emphasized that delays in global action make this threshold less achievable, with each new increase in temperature leading to an increase in extreme weather events.
It was previously reported that the summer of 2024 was the hottest in the history of weather observations, and the trend of global warming continues to worsen.
