Law enforcement officials are investigating 49 criminal trials related to the killing of 124 prisoners of war on the battlefield. This was announced by the head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict of the Prosecutor General’s Office Denis Lysenko on the air in Suspilny on Wednesday, November 6.
According to him, the rapid increase in cases of killing Ukrainian defenders during the surrender began at the end of 2023 and reached unprecedented proportions this year. Most of the cases were recorded in the Donetsk region.
The day before, two additional cases of murder of Ukrainian prisoners of war during the surrender were registered in the Donetsk region. These events took place on October 23 in the eastern part of the city of Selidovo, when three prisoners of war were killed, and on November 1 near the village of Vishnevoye of the Selidov Territory, when three more prisoners of war were shot of the conquerors. .
Meanwhile, in the territory of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine captured a Russian raider who witnessed the execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war and the posthumous beheading of their heads, the Air Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
A serviceman of the 155th separate marine brigade of the Russian Pacific Fleet admitted that in October 2022, while serving a sentence in one of the colonies, he agreed to sign a contract with the private military company Wagner. As part of its units, he first participated in the attack on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Soledar and Bakhmut, Donetsk region. In June 2023, he joined the “campaign” against Moscow, organized by the then head of Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

According to the attacker, in June of this year he signed a new contract and entered the service in the 155th Marine Brigade of the Russian Federation. In August, when the brigade was transferred to the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, he directly took part in the battles as an assistant grenade launcher.
At the end of September, near the village of Glushkovo, he witnessed the killing of two Ukrainian prisoners of war. The order for the execution and subsequent cutting of their heads from their bodies, according to Russian, was given by the unit commander. The prisoner of war named his name, as well as the names of the fighters who were directly guilty of this crime.
