In Uzbekistan, a local resident was sentenced to five years in prison for recruiting into the Russian army. Gazeta.uz reported this on Tuesday, November 5.
A court in Uzbekistan’s Fergana region sentenced 51-year-old Alisher Khalikov, who went to St. Petersburg to find work.
In November 2023, he beat up an employer who did not pay him wages, after which the police detained him. At the police station itself, under the threat of criminal prosecution, he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“The lawyer who came to the department to defend him offered him a drink, and he agreed then the lawyer explained that beating is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison and offered to participate in the war in Ukraine to avoid liability,” said the material.
After two months of training, he was sent to the front and on February 4 he crossed the border into Ukraine. In the first minutes of participation in the battle, the convoy in which the man was located was attacked from a drone. Khalikov was seriously injured and hospitalized in Moscow.
After his release, he was demobilized and offered Russian citizenship, which he refused and returned to Uzbekistan. For signing the contract and being injured, he received 800 thousand rubles (a little more than $8,000).
We remind you that India earlier returned 85 of its citizens who were tricked into joining the Russian army to participate in the war against Ukraine.
