German Chancellor Olaf Scholz sees no need to change his decision on Ukraine’s NATO membership.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not see the need for “new decisions” on Ukraine’s membership in NATO, in particular, extending an invitation to it. The politician said this at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Berlin on November 4, Ukrinform reports.
“Both in Vilnius and in Washington, decisions were made that were appropriate taking into account the current situation. I think that at the moment there is no need for new decisions on this issue, because since these decisions were made, the situation has not changed,” said Scholz.
In his opinion, the conversation should be about how in practice it is possible to provide sufficient military assistance to Ukraine. Especially now, when Russia is attracting North Korean soldiers to participate in the war against Ukraine.
Scholz assured that Germany will remain one of the leaders, the largest aid provider, as it is now second only to the United States in the world and first in Europe.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock said Ukraine must join NATO in the foreseeable future, but Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is seeking to block its membership.
“What is Germany’s position? be carried out on the principles of freedom,” – he emphasized.
Let us recall that Scholz previously said that a country at war cannot become a member of NATO. Therefore, inviting Ukraine to the Alliance is not on the agenda.
