A map of Georgia without Russian-occupied territories was shown on November 4 at a Georgian Dream briefing.
At a press conference, the head of parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, criticized non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that oppose violations in the parliamentary elections. However, the attention of the audience turned out to be focused not on his statements, but on one of the slides.
A slide with information about the distribution of delegates by district showed a truncated map of Georgia without the occupied territories.
This is exactly what the image looked like live, causing a flurry of outrage on social networks. Users called representatives of the ruling party “traitors” and shared angry posts, accusing the organizers of the briefing of undermining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.
Later it turned out that this was supposedly a graphical error: due to the peculiarities of television cameras, the color on the card simply was not transmitted correctly.
And this is how Papuashvili responded to criticism addressed to him:
We do not hold elections in the occupied territories, so there are no delegates there. If anyone has problems with color perception, take a close look: the occupied territories are highlighted in gray. How are you even going to discuss an election even if you can’t understand what’s on the slide? It seems that everything has to be chewed up for NGOs.
