The Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry was renamed the “Department of European Problems” against the backdrop of “changing geopolitical realities and the need to adapt to them.”
The department in the Russian Foreign Ministry responsible for European policy is now called the Department of European Problems – against the background of the “degradation of cooperation” in Europe, according to the head of the department, Maria Zakharova. Russian media reported this on Monday, November 4.
Zakharova explained the corresponding step by “changing geopolitical realities and the need to adapt the activities of the Russian Foreign Ministry to them” and, in her words, “the clear breakdown of the structures of multilateral cooperation in Europe.”
But, despite this, the unit will continue to deal with the issues of international European organizations – the OSCE, the Council of Europe, the European Union and NATO.
It is noted that the department is headed by Vladislav Maslennikov, who on October 18 was appointed director of the department of pan-European cooperation, which was renamed the department of European problems.
Let’s remember that at first the President of Finland proposed to expel the Russian Federation from the UN Security Council.
