In Spain, residents of Paiporta, one of the country’s worst-hit cities by devastating floods, threw mud and booed at King Felipe VI, Queen Lutizia, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and other officials visiting the affected region.
This was reported by El Dario.
Members of the delegation tried to communicate with local residents, but a crowd of people affected by the flood threw mud at them, shouting “murderers,” “down,” “we are already dead,” “get out of here!” and insults at the head of government.
It is noted that local law enforcement officers were not prepared for such a development of events and subsequently try to separate the authorities from the outraged residents. Also in the video of the incident, you can see that the police tried to cover the king and officials with umbrellas.
Subsequently, Sánchez and the head of the Valencian government, Carlos Mason, left the procession, and the king and his wife tried unsuccessfully to resolve the situation, talking with some reproachful citizens that the official visit took place only six days after the disaster.
City residents also criticized officials for the delay in providing assistance to the victims and wondered why measures were not taken to prevent the disaster.
The prime minister’s guards “activated security protocol” and evacuated him after he was hit in the back with a stick, executive sources said. It is noted that everything is fine with him and his entourage, and that this visit “is an initiative of the king, which should not have taken place. Huge mistake.”
After talking for a few minutes with the outraged residents, the king and queen left the area by car. The visit to the municipality of Chiva, which was supposed to take place in the future, was cancelled.
In Spain, rainfall in late October caused widespread flooding in several areas in the southeast of the country, including Valencia, Castile-La Mancha and eastern Andalusia. At least 214 deaths are currently known. This is one of the deadliest natural disasters in Spanish history.
