Australia sent JDAM-ER aerial bombs to Ukraine.
This ammunition was previously in service with the Royal Australian Air Force. The Australian military recently retired 230kg aerial bombs manufactured in 2021. This was reported by Australian Defense Magazine with reference to the Ministry of Defense plan released on October 30.
It is noted that at least some of these bombs were subsequently transferred to Ukraine. However, exactly when these weapons were sent is still unknown.
ADM also indicates that the first known use of JDAM-ER in Ukraine occurred on the MiG-29 in March 2023. Then the Ukrainian Armed Forces used American bombs.
As you know, Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) is a long-range GPS-guided munition produced by Boeing. During the fall, this weapon deploys its wings, allowing it to glide up to 72 km and effectively triple its range. With a range of up to 72 km, these bombs have a similar range to HIMARS missiles, but larger warheads and lower cost.
Let us recall that in May it became known that the United States ordered sensors that would provide American aerial bombs from Ukraine’s JDAM-ER with the ability to hit Russian electronic warfare systems. The Pentagon signed the corresponding contract with Scientific Applications and Research Associates
