In the last week of October 2024, Russia transferred more than seven thousand North Korean army soldiers from the Primorsky Territory to areas near Ukraine. They were armed like infantry.
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense.
North Korean troops were moved with the help of at least 28 military transport aircraft of the Russian PKS.
The DPRK military was armed, in particular, with 60-mm mortars, AK-12 assault rifles, RPK/PKM machine guns, SVD/Microwave sniper rifles, Phoenix and RPG-7 anti-tank missile systems.
Also, the North Koreans or, as they are called in the Russian occupation army, “special Buryats” were given several night vision devices, thermal imagers, collimator sights and binoculars, the intelligence press service reported.
Earlier, British intelligence identified the problems that North Korean troops will face when they fight against Ukraine.
Russian and Korean forces will almost certainly face interoperability challenges if they have not previously conducted joint military exercises, the review says.
Among other things, North Korean troops will “almost certainly” have problems operating Russian equipment, integrating into the Russian command and control structure, and overcoming the language barrier with Russian troops.
