North Korean soldiers are trained to fight in the mountains, not in the steppes of Donbass. They are likely to suffer greater losses than the Russians.
North Korea’s military involvement in the war in Ukraine will not lead to significant changes; This opinion was expressed by Ants Kiviselg, commander of the Intelligence Center of the Estonian Ministry of Defense, on Friday, November 1, ERR reports.
He believed that, most likely, the North Korean military arrived in the Russian Federation in early October, where they underwent training in the Eastern Military District, which lasted 2-4 weeks. Then they began to be sent to the war in Ukraine, so the first units with the DPRK military should be at the front in the near future.
According to Kiviselg, North Korean soldiers usually learn to fight in mountainous areas, so Ukraine is an unfamiliar climate and geography for them.
“The training they undergo in the Russian Federation is not of a very high level. Therefore, we can expect that North Korean units will suffer significant losses in Ukraine, perhaps even more than the Russians,” Kiviselg predicted.
He also expressed his belief that North Korea will continue to send more soldiers to war.
British intelligence also predicted problems for North Korean soldiers in Russia – from language barriers to problems with Russian equipment.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that there are approximately 10 thousand North Korean soldiers on Russian territory. Some – 8 thousand – have already been transferred to the Kursk region.
