Destroyers, fighters and bombers are sent to the Mediterranean to protect Israel and the American people.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered additional forces, including destroyers, fighter jets and long-range bombers, to be deployed to the Middle East. Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder announced this on Friday, November 1.
The Pentagon said the move was made “consistent with our commitments to protect US citizens and troops in the Middle East, defend Israel, and de-escalate through deterrence and diplomacy.”
“This deployment is based on the recent decision to deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system to Israel, as well as the continued presence of the US Department of Defense’s Amphibious Readiness Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) in Eastern Mediterranean ,” Ryder said.
He said Austin continued to make clear that “if Iran, its partners or their proxies seize this moment to attack American personnel or interests in the region, the United States will take all necessary steps to protect our people.”
Let’s recall that the previous day, Israeli intelligence reported that Iran was probably preparing an attack against Israel from Iraq in the coming days.
Also, the media, citing sources, reports that the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered the preparation of a strike against Israel.
