In the latest report for January – September 2024, Rosstat reduced the section on demography to one page, information on immigration was presented only in explanatory methods.
The Federal State Statistics Service in the Russian Federation (Rosstat) has stopped publishing monthly statistics on the migration situation in the country. It was reported by Radio Liberty.
According to demographer Alexei Raksha, earlier in the Rosstat reports on the socio-economic situation in Russia, migration statistics were published in the Demographics section, which took several pages. It provided data on migration within the country, including CIS countries and the so-called “far abroad”.
It was noted that in the latest report for January – September 2024, Rosstat reduced the section on demography to one page, and information on migration was presented only in explanatory methods. At the same time, a clause remains which follows that the transfer data must be published monthly. The reason for the disappearance of migration statistics from the Rosstat report is unknown.
The demographer said the latest available migration statistics showed roughly equal numbers of migrants arriving or leaving.
In his opinion, Rosstat may stop publishing data on the population as a whole, since statistics are no longer available at the beginning of each month.
Let’s remember that more than two million migrants left Russia. More than 6.1 million foreign citizens are currently registered in the migration registration system of the Russian Federation. Last year this number was 8.5 million people.
Earlier it was reported that representatives of the Russian State Duma are planning to consider a draft law that provides for the signing of a “loyalty agreement” by foreigners entering the Russian Federation.
