About 70 states and international organizations have adopted a joint working document to return captured Ukrainians. Sibig talks about “concrete results.”
A ministerial conference on the human dimension of the Peace Formula was held in Montreal, Canada, where participants approved a joint communiqué on the return of all captured and deported Ukrainians. The president’s office announced this on Thursday, October 31.
“The communiqué reflects a general set of principles that will guide future conference participants, shows unwavering support for the success of Ukraine and condemns any country that helps Russia carry out its aggression,” said of the message.
In particular, the conference participants agreed to strengthen Ukraine’s cooperation with partners and international organizations to solve humanitarian issues and ensure compliance with the Geneva Conventions.
One of the most important points is the search for trusted intermediary countries for negotiations with the Russian Federation on the repatriation of Ukrainian military, civilians and children. Also, with the help of mediators, it is proposed to create mechanisms that will allow Ukrainians in Russia to receive consular services.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga noted that Ukraine received concrete results from this conference, which many Ukrainian families expected.
“We have corresponding obligations. We have created a network – these are specific countries that have promised that they will help us with the return of children,” he said at the last press conference.
Sibiga called it very important that the international community is ready to help establish the whereabouts of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said Qatar, the Vatican, South Africa, Lithuania and the United Arab Emirates have made specific commitments to return deported children and prisoners to Ukraine.
In total, more than 70 states and international organizations took part in this conference.
Earlier, the OP reported the presentation of the White Paper – a document and action plan for the reunification of children, which is based on international standards and relevant experiences of countries such as Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Argentina.
Let’s remember that the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, said that Ukraine is ready to discuss possible adjustments to the Peace Formula, but only those that support the territorial integrity and full sovereignty of the country.
