The Constitutional Court of Moldova recognized the results of the referendum on the country’s European integration as legal.
This was reported by local TV channel TV8.
The pro-European vector of the country’s development was supported on October 20 by 50.46% of voters (49.54% voted against). A voter turnout of 33% was required for the referendum to be legitimate.
Thus, provisions will be introduced into the Constitution of Moldova that entry into the EU becomes an irreversible goal for the country.
Supporters of the pro-Russian Victory party tried to disrupt the meeting of the Constitutional Court, but they failed. The court’s decision is final and cannot be appealed.
After the elections on October 20, the Central Election Commission completed the vote count. Maia Sandu scored 42.45%, her closest rival, pro-Russian candidate Alexander Stoianoglo scored 25.98%.
The second round of elections will take place on November 3. The referendum on the changes was held on the same day as the presidential elections on October 20.
