Smuggled human hair with a total weight of 18 kg was discovered by Polish customs officers at the Kroscenko-Smolnitsa border crossing on the border with Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the Customs and Tax Administration of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship of Poland.
The goods, whose value is estimated at more than 100 thousand zlotys (more than a million hryvnia), were hidden in a cache on a bus entering Poland from Ukraine.
Strands of hair ranging from 40 to 85 cm in length were hidden in the floor of the bus. The market value of the hair, which weighed more than 18 kg, was estimated at 101 thousand zlotys, Polish customs officials said.
The 44-year-old bus driver, a citizen of Ukraine, admitted to smuggling.
By not reporting the goods for control and not paying the import duty, he caused damage to the state budget in the amount of PLN 23 thousand VAT. Further proceedings in this case are being conducted by the Podkarpackie Customs and Fiscal Service in Przemysl, the statement says.
Currently, the driver has been fined 7 thousand zlotys.
