The government may resume official cooperation with Georgia if the country re-approaches the European Union.
The Swedish government announced the end of any direct government cooperation with Georgia after the parliamentary elections. Dagens Nyheter reports.
“We are talking about cooperation between tax authorities, which we consider inappropriate under the current circumstances,” said Minister of Development Cooperation Benjamin Duza.
According to him, the government can continue official cooperation with Georgia if the country re-approaches the EU.
“If it turns out that Georgia is serious about its bid to join the EU and that it is protecting its relationship with the EU, Sweden will open the door,” Duza said.
We remind you that on October 26 parliamentary elections were held in Georgia. The ruling Georgian Dream party won. The opposition refused to recognize the election results. The President of Georgia called for protests.
On the evening of October 28, those who disagreed with the results of the parliamentary elections gathered in the center of Tbilisi. Protesters unfurled the flags of Georgia, the European Union and Ukraine.
Georgian opposition parties that do not recognize the results of the parliamentary elections are demanding a repeat vote.
