After the publication announced that from now on it will no longer support any of the candidates in the presidential election, 200 thousand subscribers canceled their subscription. The owner of the publication explained his decision.
One of the most popular American publications, The Washington Post, lost more than 200 thousand electronic subscribers in four days after the owner’s decision not to support any of the candidates in this year’s presidential election. NPR reported this on Monday, October 28, citing two newspaper employees.
It is noted that this is about 8% of the 2.5 million subscribers of the digital and print versions of the publication.
The owner of The Washington Post, Jeff Bezos, said the decision to stop supporting US presidential candidates is aimed at overcoming a “crisis of confidence” that has gripped the media industry.
“Most people view the media as biased. Anyone who doesn’t is oblivious to the truth,” Bezos wrote in an essay published on the Post’s website.
However, he noted that the decision was not related to the meeting of former President Donald Trump with the leaders of his company Blue Origin, which took place on the day of the announcement of the refusal to support the candidates.
The decision to refuse to endorse any of this year’s US presidential candidates was made as the editorial board prepared and planned to publish an editorial in support of Vice President Harris.
It was previously reported that Republicans are preparing a plan for Trump’s first 100 days.
Trump is growing, Harris is changing tactics: there are only two weeks left before the US election
