The US State Department confirmed the transfer of 10 thousand North Korean troops to eastern Russia. Western politicians are holding consultations.
US authorities are consulting with other countries on a joint response to the transfer of North Korean troops to Russian territory and their possible involvement in the war against Ukraine. US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller announced this in a briefing on Monday, October 28.
“We are consulting with the Ukrainians, we are consulting with our allies and partners on the appropriate next steps,” Miller said.
However, he did not disclose the details of the negotiations, citing their closed nature.
The State Department spokesman also confirmed assessments made by the Pentagon on Monday about the transfer of North Korean troops to Russia.
“We see how almost 10 thousand North Korean troops were transferred to eastern Russia. In the past few days, we saw how some of these 10 thousand went to the west, closer to Ukraine,” said the representative of the Department of State.
He also expressed concern that the Russian side could use North Korean manpower to conduct or support military operations against Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that the involvement of the North Korean military in the Kursk region is a sign of Putin’s growing desperation.
