The facility will manufacture C-295 transport aircraft to replace India’s aging fleet.
The first private plant for the production of the C-295 military transport aircraft was opened in India with Airbus SE. Bloomberg reported this.
The new plant in Gujarat was built in collaboration between Airbus SE and Tata Advanced Systems. It will produce the aircraft to replace the aging fleet of the Indian Army.
Under the contract worth 219 billion rupees ($2.6 billion), India will receive 56 C-295 aircraft, of which 16 will be manufactured in Spain and the rest at an Indian plant.
The first aircraft will begin to be delivered in 2026, with the last batch expected in August 2031.
The project is also attracting Indian state-owned companies such as Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Bharat Dynamics Ltd., which will manufacture components for aircraft. Initially, the share of local components in the Indian C-295 will be about half, but in the future it is planned to increase it to 75%.
The C-295 aircraft can carry up to 71 troops or 9 tons of cargo, which will help replace the outdated Avro and Soviet An-32, which have reached the end of their service life.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine and India agree on cooperation in the defense industry.
