Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said his words at the Davos forum were misinterpreted: he did not call on Ukraine to make territorial concessions to Russia. Kissinger said this in an interview with Time magazine.
“I didn’t say that. I said that the best dividing line for a ceasefire is the status quo before the war, that is, you should not go to war from Ukrainian territories when the war started, to the territories which at that time was part .of Russia or considered part of it.And I warn against waging war for the independence of Ukraine in a war for the future of Russia. It needs to be carefully considered. Now it is still occupied by Russia owns 15% of Ukraine’s pre -war territory – it should be returned unconditionally to Ukraine, ”Kissinger said.
The former US Secretary of State believes the escalation of territorial disputes could lose control of the situation.
“I did not say that the territory should be given. I just meant that it should have a separate status in any negotiation. I absolutely support Ukraine’s independence and its significant role in Europe,” Henry Kissinger summed up.
Recall that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the proposals of former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that Ukraine should make concessions to Russia, including giving up part of its territory.
