Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili announced the non-recognition of the parliamentary elections, which she called “Russian”, and called on people to go out to mass protests.
She called the last vote “Russian elections” and accused the authorities of depriving citizens of the rights guaranteed by the constitution.
The President confirmed that she does not recognize the results presented by the Central Election Commission.
I do not recognize these elections. These elections cannot be recognized. This is akin to recognizing Russia’s entry here, the subordination of Georgia to Russia. I didn’t come to the country for this. This is not what our ancestors lived for, and we will not accept it. “No one can take away Georgia’s European future,” she added.
Zurabishvili called on people to fight for their vote and come to Rustaveli Square on Monday at 19:00 to announce to the whole world that “we do not recognize these elections.”
The Georgian Central Election Commission, which has processed almost all the votes, publishes the election results, during which the ruling Georgian Dream gains 54%. The opposition does not agree with this, whose exit polls showed that “Dream” is supported by 40-42%. This would mean that in total the opposition received more votes than the ruling party and would be able to form a coalition majority in parliament.
For now, the opposition is confident that the elections were “stolen.”
