Baltic networks will be synchronized with continental Europe networks on February 9 next year.
Lithuania will disconnect its power lines from Russia and Belarus in February 2025. And then he will completely dismantle these lines. Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid announced this on Friday, October 25.
It is noted that some power lines with third countries are operating. All lines will be disconnected in February 2025, when the BRELL agreement (the common electricity system of Russia, Belarus and the Baltic countries) expires. The layoff will begin immediately thereafter.
On October 23, the Lithuanian government removed seven 330-kilovolt lines with Russia and Belarus from the list of assets and facilities important for national security, Lithuanian broadcaster LRT wrote. It is expected that the Baltic networks will be synchronized with the networks of continental Europe on February 9 next year.
A day earlier, on February 8, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will disconnect from the Russian IPS/UPS system and conduct a joint isolated test of operation, after which they will not return to the old system.
In July, the Baltic GTS informed Russia and Belarus about the non-renewal of the BRELL contract and withdrawal from February 2025.
Note that Ukraine was disconnected from the Russian power grid the day before the large-scale invasion began.
It was previously reported that Lithuania was violating the agreement with the Russian Federation on merchant shipping. The Ministry of Transport of Lithuania stated that the provisions of this agreement are no longer relevant to the country. Condemnation was also proposed due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Kremlin’s gross violation of international law, due to which cooperation with this regime was completely suspended.
We remind you that Lithuania has installed counter-mobility devices for the territory near the bridge connecting the country to the Russian Federation, as well as crossings on the Neman River.
