An investigation by The Wall Street Journal confirmed regular secret communications between American businessman Elon Musk and Kremlin owner Vladimir Putin and concerns about this among US officials.
The Wall Street Journal writes about this, citing its sources among officials from the United States, Russia and Europe.
Musk and Putin mainly discuss geopolitics, business and personal matters. In the US administration, such contacts cause concern, because the country’s government depends on the technologies of the billionaire, who also has access to certain secret information and connections with Trump, the publication writes.
In addition, at the end of 2023, Putin asked Musk not to activate Starlink satellite communication terminals in Taiwan in order to provide a favor to Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
Musk did not respond to a request for comment, but in October 2022 he publicly stated that he had only communicated with Putin once, around April 2021. They talked about space. Russia said the same thing.
But, according to the publication, after 2022 Musk also communicated with other Russian officials. In particular, with Sergei Kiriyenko, Putin’s first deputy head of administration. The topic of their conversation is unknown.
The American billionaire makes contributions to his America PAC (political action committee), promoting the Republican candidate in the US election race.
In addition, this committee holds daily million-dollar drawings among those who signed a petition in support of amendments to the US Constitution – on freedom of speech and the right to own guns. Elon Musk also allocates money for this.
