Russia has not yet secured international support for the BRICS summit in Kazan.
The aggressor country has not yet created the alternative security structure that the Kremlin desires. In the summit declaration, Russia’s war against Ukraine is mentioned only once. The document states that all signatories must act in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter, including the provision of respect for territorial integrity. This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The declaration also notes that the BRICS states welcome relevant proposals for mediation aimed at ensuring a peaceful settlement of the war through dialogue and diplomacy.
Ukraine said the declaration also demonstrates that the BRICS countries are not united around Russia’s war against Ukraine, since many of these countries support the principles of the UN Charter.
And the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine suggested that the BRICS summit would not lead to the international community’s approval of the alternative system of international settlement sought in Moscow. The SVR stated that India, the UAE, Brazil and South Africa opposed the transformation of BRICS into an anti-American coalition.
Let us recall that the day before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the point in the final declaration of the BRICS summit in Kazan dedicated to the war in Ukraine. There, the participating countries only recalled their national positions on this issue, as well as their commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, peaceful settlement and diplomacy.
Kyiv said that Moscow’s attempts to impose the idea of an allegedly alternative position of the so-called “Global South” regarding Russian aggression against Ukraine suffered another fiasco.
