The date of the next presidential elections has been announced in Belarus – January 26, 2025.
The state news agency BELTA reported this on October 23.
Since July 1994, Alexander Lukashenko has been president. In 2022, he signed a document on changes to the Constitution, which provided him with the opportunity to hold this post until 2035.
The decision on elections was made at a meeting of the House of Representatives just three months later. In Belarusian realities, such a decision is made not by parliament, but by the Presidential Administration, and deputies only formally approve.
According to the election calendar, they were supposed to take place no later than July 20, 2025. At the end of September, the head of the Central Election Commission, Igor Karpenko, said that several possible dates for holding presidential elections next year were being considered.
There are four approximate dates for holding elections, including the latest – July 20, 2025,” Karpenko said, without specifying them.
In August, Belpol, citing sources, named the expected date of the presidential elections – February 23, 2025.
As a result, dictator Lukashenko chose an even earlier date. The fact that elections are approaching was evidenced by a massive propaganda campaign in recent months, increases in salaries and pensions, as well as Lukashenko’s intensive travel around the country, despite his health problems.
