The Israeli police and the Shabak domestic intelligence service have exposed a network of Israeli citizens spying for Iran. Their task is to provide information about military bases and track individuals. The Guardian reported this on Monday, October 21.
“The suspects are accused of photographing and collecting information about Israeli bases and installations, including the defense headquarters in Tel Aviv, as well as the Nevatim and Ramat David air bases,” wrote the newspaper.
The military infrastructure they removed was the target of Iranian ballistic missiles in the October 1 attack on Israel.
The network has been in operation for about two years. The group has carried out 600 missions in two years, according to police.
According to some media reports, those arrested were Jewish immigrants from Azerbaijan living in the Haifa area.
According to Haaretz, the suspects likely received hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash transfers from Russian intermediaries, as well as cryptocurrencies.
Israeli media reported that the suspects are related to the family, two of whom are father and son. Some of the suspects are of Jewish origin, others received Israeli citizenship through family ties.
