Polish police seized more than 300 ancient coins found in unauthorized excavations and detained two men.
In Krakow, Poland, police seized a unique collection of ancient coins found during illegal excavations.
As reported by RMF24, the collection includes around 300 silver coins of Prince Vladislav the Exile, dating back to the 12th century, as well as coins of the Roman Empire.
The two men detained on suspicion of illegal acquisition of these valuables are residents of Krakow and a nearby town, aged 28 and 34 years. Police contacted them after discovering an online ad for the sale of antiques.
The detainees are suspected of conducting unauthorized excavations in the Lesser Poland region. Under Polish law, they face up to three years in prison.
It was previously reported that during excavations in Sicily, archaeologists discovered the remains of a Roman villa with a mosaic floor dating back to the 2nd-4th centuries AD.
