The military retreated to ready fortified positions in the west, occupied them and from there they continued to fight the Russian army.
The head of the Lugansk regional administration, Sergei Gaidai, said that Ukrainian troops had left Lisichansk to avoid the siege and left the city without losses. He said this in an interview with the BBC.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported yesterday that Lisichansk was brought in a “cauldron”, that is, surrounded on all sides.
“Our military can still hold the city for a long time, but now Russia has a huge advantage in artillery and ammunition. They will just destroy the city from afar, so there is no point in staying. We are surrounded and have to sit there while the city is buried “Therefore, we decided not to allow the siege. We decided to retreat to the ready fortified positions in the west, seize them and from there continue fighting the Russian army. As a result, everyone left without a loss, ”Sergei Gaidai said.
According to him, while some units of Ukrainian troops were holding lines in Lysichansk, others were building new fortifications in the Donetsk region, and now the troops have already gone there.
“Personally, it’s hard and painful for me, but it’s not a defeated war. It’s just a battle we lost. We have to rescue our troops so that when enough Western weapons arrive, we can conduct normal operations and counter-attacks., ”Gaidai said.
The head of the administration of the Luhansk region said that the next goal of the Russians is to capture the Donetsk region.
Recall, on July 3, the General Staff reported that after intense fighting, the Armed Forces of Ukraine left Lisichansk to save the lives of personnel.
At the same time, the Russian Federation has already said that Russian troops have completely occupied the Luhansk region.
