What if monoclonal antibodies could pave the way for the treatment of allergic pathologies? Many researchers are really interested in using these biotherapies as a gateway to immunotherapy (or desensitization) for patients who don’t currently have access to them. Immunotherapy consists of exposing the allergic patient to increasing doses of the allergen(s) to which they are sensitive. Thus, the body gets used to its presence and no longer triggers an uncontrolled and potentially dangerous emergency response against this intruder, which is mistakenly perceived as a major threat.
This approach has been used for over a century by many allergists, more or less empirically, with more or less notable successes and failures.
