A record number of candidates were registered for the presidential elections in Moldova on Sunday, October 20 – 11 people.

The current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, voted in the election of the country’s new president, calling on other citizens to come out to “decide their destiny.” Sandu announced this on Sunday, October 20.

“Today I vote so that Moldova can develop in peace and freedom, so that Moldova can build the future that Moldovans want and deserve to decide their own destiny your word for your destiny.” , Sandu wrote on Facebook.

Let’s add that a record number of candidates are registered in Moldova – 11 people.

Among the candidates, in particular, is the current President Maia Sandu, who now sees the elections as an important test on the path to Moldova’s integration with the European Union. According to the polls, Sandu is in the lead, ahead of other contenders, especially former Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo, who is supported by pro-Russian forces, and Renato Usatii, who calls for balancing relations with the West and Moscow.

As we have already written, the members of the European Parliament on Wednesday, October 9, adopted a resolution expressing strong reservations against further Russian attempts to disrupt the pro-European course of Moldova.

We add that Moldovan authorities say they have exposed a Russian-backed operation involving 130,000 of its citizens, intended to influence decisive votes on the country’s European aspirations.
