German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not support the central points of President Vladimir Zelensky’s victory plan.

The West has responded by blocking a plan put forward by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to end the war against Russia. Correspondent.net collected reactions of Western politicians and the press to Zelensky’s plan.

Cold Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not support the main positions of the plan. He argued his position with concerns about further escalation. Scholz said he is responsible for ensuring that the war between Russia and Ukraine does not become a war between Russia and NATO.

He added that nothing would change his decision to deny Kyiv the supply of Taurus cruise missiles.

“I don’t think these deliveries are right and that’s what will remain,” Scholz said.

NATO’s problem

Zelensky, in the first point of his plan, insisted on the need to invite Ukraine to NATO now, but representatives of the Alliance directly said that such an invitation is not expected in the near future.

“I wouldn’t bet a bottle of wine (on Ukraine’s invitation to NATO in the near future),” the Washington Post quoted its NATO source as saying. “A lot will depend on what the new American administration thinks about it, but I see the field is changing a bit, so now the conversation is more serious,” added this interlocutor from the Alliance.

Increasing rates

The BBC summarizes that Zelensky’s peace terms are “especially not at odds with the situation around him.” The Air Force believes that Ukrainian morale is “gradually collapsing under the pressure of a rising death toll, a controversial mobilization law and Russia’s relentless offensive on Ukrainian territory.” “There is growing talk that any peace deal should include territorial concessions from Ukraine in return for security guarantees,” the BBC article said. However, as British journalists admitted, there was no hint of this in Zelensky’s speech. Instead, the Ukrainian president is “doubling down on strengthening the Ukrainian army to force Russia to negotiate and not cede territory to Ukraine.”
