The incident occurred with the cargo ship Grigory Lovtsov off the coast of Russian Sakhalin. The steamer was carrying crushed stone and sand, but capsized near the Korsakov region during an overload. This was reported by the SHOT Telegram channel on Friday, October 18
Seven crew members ended up in the water. Three sailors were rescued by ships approaching the accident site, but the fate of the other four is still unknown.
According to some reports, two people died, one was pulled out of the water and taken to the hospital.
Active search and rescue operations continue at the scene, involving two tugboats and a rescue vessel. The Sakhalin Transport Prosecutor’s Office has started an investigation into the incident.
