The plan expands the community of states that want to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said.
The plan of China and Brazil for the peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine was supplemented in September with reference to the UN Charter and is now worthy of consideration. This is what Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said, reports Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday, October 17th.
The minister emphasized that the Chinese-Brazilian “peace plan” for Ukraine still has contradictions, however, if read in a political key, it will “open the door to dialogue.”
“And in this sense, we can only support the initiative to open the door. I don’t think rapprochement has progressed enough, but I believe that an open door is always better than a closed one,” Cassis said.
At the same time, he added that the plan is worthy of consideration because it expands the community of states that want to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“Any plan aimed at achieving peace can make a constructive contribution if it is based on the UN Charter, must be accepted and considered if there are interesting complementary elements,” said the Swiss Foreign Minister.
Let’s recall that at the end of May, China and Brazil outlined a common position on a political settlement of the war in Ukraine.
China, Brazil and several other countries in the Global South have agreed to create a platform Friend of the worldwithin the framework of which they plan to promote the peaceful resolution of the “Ukraine crisis”.
