About 40% of people in dire need live in conflict zones.
Worldwide, 1.1 billion people live in extreme poverty. 40% of those who fall into poverty live in conflict zones. This is stated in a report by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), published on Thursday, October 17.
It is noteworthy that more than one billion people in the world, half of them minors, have fallen into poverty. About 40% of those who fall into poverty live in conflict zones. That’s almost 455 million people.
“1.1 billion people suffer from poverty in all its forms. Of these, 455 million live in conflict zones. In war-torn countries, poverty levels are three times higher than in countries where peace reigns,” the report said.
The UN annually analyzes data from 112 countries, home to 6.3 billion people. The current report shows 2023.
Let’s remember that, according to the World Bank, about nine million Ukrainians found themselves below the poverty line because of the war unleashed by Russia.
