The plan also includes new rules governing the long-term stay of refugees from Ukraine.
The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, outlined a ten-point plan to combat illegal immigration on the eve of the EU summit, reports Polish radio station RMF FM.
Von der Leyen announced “innovative ways to combat illegal migration” in a letter to EU heads of state and government two days before the summit.
According to him, the possibility of organizing centers for migrants who do not have the right to asylum should be considered outside the European Union.
Thus, this is the first time that the European Commission has accepted such a proposal. Italy is already organizing corresponding centers in Albania.
Von der Leyen also announced new rules that would make it better to return migrants ineligible for asylum to their countries of origin.
The EU leader indicated that one of the main tasks of the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration is to solve the problem of hybrid attacks from Russia and Belarus. We are talking about agreements with airlines flying to Minsk and a stricter visa policy.
In addition, new rules governing the long-term stay of refugees from Ukraine are being considered, but the details are not yet known.
As we wrote earlier, Poland intends to temporarily suspend the right to grant asylum.
