Tensions have arisen over possible Israeli retaliation for the massive rocket attack on October 1.
Iran has halted indirect talks with the US in Oman amid tensions over possible Israeli retaliation for the recent heavy shelling. This was announced by the head of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Araghchi, reports The Times of Israel.
It is noted that the Sultanate, located on the eastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, has long been an interlocutor between Iran and the United States, including secret negotiations that eventually gave birth to a nuclear agreement in 2015.
“For now, the Muscat process has been stopped due to the special situation in the region. We see no grounds for negotiations until we overcome the current crisis,” the minister said during a visit to Muscat.
Let’s remember that on October 1, Iran attacked Israel with ballistic missiles.
Iran explained its strike as a response to the killing of several officials, notably, Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Ghaniya, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian general Abbas Nilforoushan.
According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Iran fired about 200 missiles. The United States assisted Israel in shooting down the missiles with its military resources. The UK also joined in the defense against the attack.
