A man with a gun was detained at a rally of US presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The suspect, a 49-year-old Las Vegas resident, was driving an unregistered black SUV with a homemade license plate. A shotgun, pistol and ammunition were seized from him. The attacker had several fake passports. This was reported by the Associated Press.
It is noted that the incident occurred in Coachella, east of Los Angeles. The man crossed the outer security line, but sheriff’s deputies stopped him at the inner perimeter. Another checkpoint, closer to the rally site, was controlled by the Secret Service.
The unknown person introduced himself as a journalist, but it was unclear whether he had the appropriate identification. Law enforcement officers noticed a “disorder” inside the car, and during a search they found weapons, ammunition and fake passports and driver’s licenses in different names. He was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine.
Police said the incident did not impact the safety of Trump or event attendees. At the time of his arrest, the Trump man had not yet arrived at the rally. However, on the same day he was released from prison on bail of $5,000. He will appear in court on January 2, 2025.
Let us remind you that the Polymarket platform recently informed that US Republican Party candidate Donald Trump has taken the lead in the election race. At first, Trump’s chances of winning were 53.3%, and Kamala Harris’s – 46.1%. However, Trump’s rating subsequently increased by almost 3%.
