Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris released a letter from her doctor who declared her healthy and fit for high office.
Now she is trying to draw a contrast with her Republican opponent Donald Trump, writes Reuters.
She has the physical and mental toughness necessary to successfully perform the duties of the presidency, including those of chief executive, head of state and commander in chief, Harris’ physician Joshua Simmons said in a letter.
Simmons’ only criticism is Harris’ vitamin D deficiency.
The agency indicates that Harris, 59, is running against Trump, 78. She released her medical information to draw attention to the Republican’s refusal to do the same, according to an aide to the vice president.
Harris said Trump’s reluctance to provide detailed medical reports is an example of his “opacity.” In response, Republican campaign communications director Stephen Cheng said Trump had voluntarily released his health data and was “in excellent condition to become commander in chief.”
Reuters notes that Harris’ team is keen to emphasize Trump’s age as he becomes the oldest presidential candidate. Previously, this was 81-year-old President Joe Biden, who left the election race after poor debate results against the Republican.
In August, Donald Trump said in an interview with CBS that his doctor gave him a perfect score at his last medical examination. However, Trump has never released any medical information about himself.
While running for president in 2015, he released a letter from his doctor saying Trump would be “the healthiest man ever elected to the presidency.”
A detailed analysis of Trump’s health was conducted in January 2018. He underwent a complete heart, head, and otolaryngology examination.
White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson told reporters at the time that Trump was in excellent health. However, he acknowledged that Trump was taking a range of prescription and over-the-counter medications at the time. In particular, a cholesterol-lowering agent, a drug to prevent hair loss, multivitamins, and also used an ointment for skin rashes and inflammations.
