Christopher Columbus was Jewish – his origins were revealed through DNA analysis.
The documentary film Columbus’s DNA, His True Origins chronicles the 22 years of research that unraveled the centuries-old mystery of America’s discoverer.
Columbus was thought to be a Christian, but it is now known that he hid his Jewish origins due to the persecution of Jews in the 15th century.
The feature film follows a 22-year investigation led by forensic expert and University of Granada professor José Antonio Lorente. After examining hundreds of bones and documents, it can be argued that Christopher Columbus was Jewish.
Of the 25 possible versions of the origin of Christopher Columbus, scientists have chosen the eight most plausible. One after another, the hypotheses presented with documentary and historical facts were tested until the result of the DNA test destroyed almost all of them.
Dozens of historians have questioned the traditional theory that Columbus came from Genoa in northwestern Italy. Other theories ranged from him being a Spanish Jew, Greek, Basque or Portuguese. Now a professor at the University of Granada, José Antonio Lorente, confirms that Columbus was a Jew.
Catalan researcher Francesc Albardaner, ex-president of the Center dʼEstudis Colombins from Barcelona, is convinced that the DNA results completely exclude the story that Columbus was an Italian from Genoa. According to him, historical data confirms that Genoa expelled the Jews in the 12th century – “there were no people, no community, no synagogue, nothing at all, the Jews could only stay in Genoa for three days to settle matters, and then they had to leave there . ”
In old history books they write about Columbus as a good Christian. However, in fact, he hid his origin, because in the 15th century the Jews were given an ultimatum – to leave the possession of the Catholic monarchs. Therefore, the navigator had to pretend all his life that he was a Christian, a Catholic. The next mystery that remains to be discovered is how Columbus managed to contact John II of Portugal or the Catholic Monarchs to propose a very expensive and risky adventure.
The answer is clear, assures the Catalan, because there were many Jews and Jewish converts who helped him, among them the Duke of Medinaceli, with whom he lived for several years. And, of course, Luis de Santangel, who was something of a minister of finance for King Ferdinand the Catholic, personally financed the expedition to America, giving great support to Christopher Columbus.” He was also supported by Andres Cabrera, a very similar adviser and responsible for the accounts of Isabel La Catolica.
Having rejected all theories, Galician, Portuguese, Majorcan, Basque-Navarian and Castilian, José Antonio Lorente decides to choose the Mediterranean Jewish theory. Christopher Columbus discovered America on October 12, 1492.
Christopher Columbus died at age 55 in the northwestern Spanish city of Valladolid in 1506, but wanted to be buried on the Pacific Caribbean island of Hispaniola. His remains were transported there in 1542, and then, in 1795, to Cuba. The remains reached Seville in Spain only in 1898.
