The GUR special forces use Swedish SV-90 boats at sea.
The high-speed armored assault ships Combat Boat-90 provide enhanced operational capabilities for military reconnaissance at sea. These boats, purchased for UAH 165 million for the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, were transferred in June 2024 as part of the Steel Front military initiative to the Metinvest company. The Main Intelligence Directorate announced this on October 11 in Telegram.
This boat has a length of 14.9 m and a beam of 3.8 m. It is capable of speeds of up to 43 sea knots. The Drakar is capable of carrying 4.5 tons of cargo or 21 landing soldiers in full combat gear.
The SV-90 is equipped with firing points for machine guns and grenade launchers. If necessary, the boats can be armed with light anti-ship missiles. It is also capable of transporting sea mines and depth charges.
The Main Intelligence Directorate noted that this boat was named Drakar in honor of the Viking ships. The craft is designed for landing operations, water area surveillance, patrolling and evacuation. It can also serve as fire support boats.
The commander of the Drakar landing assault boat of the Viking naval center GUR Sergei said that the advantages of this equipment are that it is very fast, maneuverable and functional. In addition, the boat’s armor can protect you from bullets and debris. The cruising range of the SV-90 is 300 nautical miles.
Let us recall that on September 9, Sweden announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth more than $400 million, which included, among other things, six combat boats Combat Boat 90.
